What is iSlide?
4th Screen Advertising’s iSlide is the new expandable rich media ad format which is looking to revolutionise the mobile advertising market by taking a holistic view of smartphone handsets and how consumers use it, says David Glennie, Group Product Director at MIG.
In a nutshell, iSlide takes the banner ad and expands into a full screen creative, delivering an interactive engaging consumer experience. Basically, iSlide serves up a banner at the top of an app, which, when clicked, slides down to fill the mobile screen to offer an extremely active space that can run video, make calls, use apps already in the device, connect to the web or download apps and other content.
"The service is aimed at blue chip brands that want to reach a sophisticated mobile audience with adventurous and interesting interactive ad content," says Glennie. "Right now, iPhone users will click on anything, so we are giving them something really interesting and useful to click on that gives them interesting, branded content."
What has it done for Barclaycard?
"This has worked so well because it has taken the capability of the phone and the desires of the game players who have them and put them together - and put them one click away from signing up to Barclaycard," says Glennie.
4th Screen Advertising sees this as the true future of mobile advertising and is looking at how to put these iSlide ads into all sorts of other apps. "The next step will be full phone screen ads that sit within apps," says Glennie. "For example, once a consumer has finished a level on a game, an ad slides down saying "Congratulations on completing level 10; you must be thirsty after all that - why not get 50&percent; off a drink at brand name store with this token?" It can even serve up a Google map to show you where to go."
According to Glennie, this moves mobile advertising into the whole new realm of relevant reward advertising. "4th Screen is thinking creatively about how to make mobile ads engaging while creating value for the brand AND the consumer," he says. "They have to be relevant to the app they appear in, and they have to offer something of value, but this is the future of mobile advertising - and it create new revenue streams for apps development."
